Leadership

The ministry of Anchor Church is led by elders and facilitated by deacons, but the real work is done by the partners (members) of our church. Staff help support this work on a daily basis.

Our Elders

Jesus has gifted his church with qualified men to shepherd the church through teaching, prayer, oversight, and pastoral care. These men are called Elders (or Pastors), and we read of their qualifications in God's Word (1 Tim. 3:1-7; Titus 1:5-9).

I’m married to my best friend, Miriam, and we live in Chesapeake with our four amazing daughters - Eden, Eliana, Evaline, and Eleanor (yes, we went all-in on “E” names - and girls!). Our house is usually a sea of pinks, purples, and turquoises… except on fall Saturdays, when everything turns orange and blue as we cheer on the Florida Gators and green and white on fall Sundays as we root for the Philadelphia Eagles.

Since 2023, I’ve had the joy of serving as Lead Pastor at Anchor Church, where I preach, pray, provide vision, and pour into the next generation of leaders to make much of King Jesus, both locally and globally.

When I’m not pastoring, you’ll usually find me with my family - walking, biking, reading, laughing, or getting pulled into an episode of Cupcake Wars. Life at our house is full of laughter, singing, dancing, hiking, and playing - and we LOVE it!

I am married to Melanie and have two wonderful kids, Gabby and Owen. We reside in Virginia Beach, and we enjoy going to the beach, local hikes, Busch Gardens, and relaxing at the family river house.

I serve the local community as a firefighter/paramedic and a proud member of FEMA US&R VA Task Force 2, deploying nationally to natural and man-made disasters.

During my free time, you can find me tinkering in the garage, DIY projects, and grabbing coffee or a meal with friends.

I've been happily married to the love of my life, Stacy, for over twenty years. We have three amazing children - Jo, Evie, and Justus - who have been blessed by the families at Anchor as they grow in their walks with Christ. We moved to South Virginia Beach from Cleveland, OH, in 2022 and are still Cleveland sports fans. We are enjoying beach life and love a good adventure, like exploring new places and hiking outdoors.

For most of my early career, I was involved in a trans-denominational church planting network in Cleveland.  Currently, I work as a software engineer and am passionate about new technologies such as blockchain and artificial intelligence.

My favorite hobbies are reading science fiction books, being an avid sports fan, and exercising or being active with my family. In the summers, we would love to hang out with any of you at the beach on a nice day!

Greg and Sarah have three children and have been married for more than a decade. They've been a part of Anchor since its beginning and have served on the worship and production teams in various roles. They currently lead and host a Community Group in the Thoroughgood section of Virginia Beach. They've appreciated the growth and learning that elder training has provided and they are looking forward to serving the church family as a part of the elder team.

Heath and Melissa have three boys - West, Erik, and Josiah. They both grew up in Virginia Beach and have been a part of Anchor Church since the beginning. They love the welcoming character of the church and its leadership. The Odermans are most excited to serve Anchor because of the personal growth in Christ that will always be required and the opportunity to be a part of seeing Jesus impact lives.

I'm married to my best friend, Lindsay - we’ve shared many wonderful years together and call Virginia Beach home. We’re proud parents to two amazing daughters, Abby and Maddie, and as a family, we love cheering on Oklahoma Sooner football and, of course, the Navy Midshipmen.

I’m a naval aviator and have had the honor of flying the mighty MH-53 Sea Dragon helicopter for most of my Navy career. These days, I’m transitioning from the cockpit to the desk as I start the move toward retirement from active duty.

When I’m not working, you’ll usually find me in my shop working on a project, cheering on my daughter at tennis matches, or just enjoying a quiet weekend at home. I love a good day with tools in hand, time with family, and space to relax.

I’m lucky enough to be married to my wife, who is a champion among humans. Her steadfast friendship, wisdom, and grace have been a blessing in my life since we began dating as teenagers. Together, we are raising our three wonderful children. The five of us form a metaphorical super robot, battling life’s laundry as a united fighting force.

Professionally, I have worked as a Police Officer since I was 21, which keeps getting further away. This role has provided me the opportunity to be a light in the dark and to practically serve our city. I’ve done amateur work in art, dabbling in murals and graphic design. I have served in the church longer than both of these, and have found it to be the more fulfilling as well.

I enjoy art, eating, tattoos, comic books, real books, hiking, movies, travel, nature, and sharing these things with friends. I care deeply about community and relationships, and love the goodness of the gospel and how it intersects with our daily lives. It’s my prayer to serve the Lord and his people faithfully.

My wife Kristen and I have been blessed with two boys, Oliver and Austin, complete with the world of energy, fun, and (somewhat controlled) chaos that comes with them. They work day and night alongside our third (fur) child, Bear the Aussie Shepherd mix, to make sure we stay on our toes, which helps with the development of flexibility, resilience, and toned calves.

For just over the past decade, I have worked in the public sector as an engineer supporting Naval Fleet maintenance, predominantly at Norfolk Naval Shipyard. The Lord has used this career to develop me both personally and professionally, helping me to grow in service, leadership, and to see how they can work beautifully together in concert.

When I’m not at work, you will find me entrenched in family life, which most often consists of some manner of ball sports with one or both boys in our sprawling backyard.  I also like to watch sports (Go ‘Hoos!), some would say too much.  To that criticism, I would counter that sports watching is a perfectly good excuse for community, so – let’s watch together! Hit me up.

I’ve been devoted to Jesus since 2010, which is also the year I married my wife, Melinda. We have two sons, Enoch and Moses, and have lived in Virginia Beach since 2015. Our family loves building community around our dining room table and making our home a welcome place for friends and strangers all day, every day.

Over the past 20 years, I’ve been a bank teller, grocery cashier, bouncy castle guard, NBA cameraman, business analyst, road flare delivery driver, snow cone artist,
operations manager, lawn mower, NPR News update host, teaching pastor, videographer, and business banker (among other things).

However, being a husband and father is my favorite vocation. Our home is a place of Lord of the Rings read-alouds, lightsaber fights, LEGO projects, and lots of communal meals. I also love peanut butter and jelly sandwiches.

I'm married to my much better half Brittney, who is an elementary educator. We recently moved to Virginia Beach with our two sons, Knox and Nash. Knox was named after the great Scottish reformer John Knox. But when Nash came along, we needed something to match and decided to go all-in with the Tennessee theme! Our home is filled with lots of wrestling, Lego building projects, dinosaur battles, cookie baking, and we love going on family adventures together.

I'm the new kid on the block and have been serving Anchor as Associate Pastor since April of 2025. I'm thrilled for this role as I get to invest in leaders, strengthen community life, assist with teaching, and help shepherd the flock. Prior to VA Beach, I served as a church planter in South Florida.

On my days off, you can typically find me out in the woods or on the water. I'm always looking for the next trail to name or the next bass to catch.
